Hi, I was interested in the photo showing Eric Batten kicking the ball downfield, not least because my father Jack Bowen (Wigan's loose forward is seen just to the right of Trevor Foster) is in the photo and I'd never seen this particular photograph previously. The match is dated Jan 1st 1939 it was in fact played on April 22nd 1944 and it was the second-leg of the War-Time Cup Final. An obvious clue is that Eric Batten didn't join Bradford until 1943. Since my father played for Wigan from 1938 until 1948 (apart from 3 years in the Forces) my interest is obviously with the Wigan team and I possess an excellent team photo of the Wigan side just before the start of this particular match. Bradford won this encounter having narrowly lost the previous week at Central Park by 3 points to nil, they won the second leg by 8 points to nil, thus winning by an aggregate score of 8 points to 3.
